Ok, ok, so my last post was less than flattering to England. Well, I've been away from my home away from home for several days now (7, actually) and, well, ok, I miss some things about it. And since I can't go back for a few more days (10 but who is counting) I thought I would contribute something nice in favor of the UK.
Things I Miss:
English mustard. It is amazing. The flavor isn't spicy, but it has the spicy quality of wasabi, and really I don't think is meant to be eaten on its own, it is just too much, most of my friends cut it with mayo. But it is awesome, and I wish I had some right now.
Chips. Or crisps. They do crazy innovative things with flavors of chips. Really, it would blow your mind. It is revolutionary. There are only two downsides. First. Doritos default flavor here is nacho cheese, over there is nothing. They leave them plain. Why? Second. Chicken flavored chips. They taste EXACTLY like chicken. And why would one ever want that? It is scary. And gross.
Everything is quaint.
Top Gear. Good show. I got a season on DVD for my dad because he will love it, but he has yet to watch it. But when he does he will realize it is his favorite show.
I kinda liked walking to everything.
Dancing. I miss dancing. I won't have any dance team in Amsterdam, and I will certainly not have MY (adoptive) dance team. And life for those months will be a little sadder for it.
Accents!!
Ok enough of that!! What is amazing about being here:
I can watch sports on tv, so hooray for the Caps, and the Ravens need to get it in gear quickly.
Water taps. Every sink in the UK has a sign over it warning that the water is too hot. It is. Why have they not invented a method for making warm water? Most sinks have two faucets, one for hot and one for cold. But even the ones where there is only one tap still have unpleasant water, it is simultaneously too hot and too cold, which blows my mind in and of itself. Now that I'm hear I can wash my hands pleasantly.
When I want to get dressed, I just go to my closet, open it, and find lots and lots of clothes. It is amazing to have more than one sweater at my disposal.
Just about every movie or tv show I have seen since being back takes place in DC or Baltimore. Awesome.
Well, America is generally awesome, and I am happy to be here. Where else can you find a car dealership that exclusively sells F150s and Hummers? But I do miss England and the many wonderful things about it. I love being home, but am counting down the days until I get back. For now I have to go though, Top Gear just came on on BBCAmerica.
Shout out. I think most of my readership are Costas, so thanks for the family support, Costas! And thanks to all those who are not related to me and read me anyway. Happy holidays to all.

Top Gear is indeed an amazing show . . . I am happy you have discovered it haha
ReplyDeleteDon't you like the 'cool original' Doritos? Since apparently 'ranch' doesn't exist over there.
